Health and Safety
Introduction
Health and Safety within the Construction Industry has become a key issue
for HM Government, which is in the process of developing and supporting a series
of initiatives across the construction disciplines. 2.2 Million people work
in the UK construction industry and yet it has one of the highest rates of death
and injury compared to other sectors of the economy. The responsibility for
ensuring a safe working environment falls not only on those directly working
on construction sites, but also upon those responsible for the design and procurement
of the buildings themselves.
For this reason, Health and Safety is considered by the majority of Built Environment
Professional Accreditation Bodies as a fundamental issue which must be addressed
by students before qualification.
CEBE has funded a special interest group to look specifically at how health
and safety issues can be integrated into Architectural Education. Its guidelines
can be downloaded
