CEBE Educational Development Grants
Guidelines for submission
Applications for Educational Development Grants must be made on the
proposal form available on the CEBE web site and may be submitted in paper form
or electronically using the on-line application form. A pledge of match funding
where appropriate, should also accompany your submission. Successful proposals
will require confirmation of the support of the Head of Department or School
before funding is released.
Please use the guidance notes provided below
Feedback will be given within 28 days of the closing date for proposals
as to whether funding will be available
Application Guidelines
The proposal should:
- Indicate what you want to do, how you want to do it, why the proposed work
is timely, and the departmental context (e.g. part of a departmental review).
- Provide full details of the resource or teaching and learning approach to
be refined or developed with a clear rationale for the project in terms of
perceived deficiencies in current approaches or resources.
- Specify the likely benefits of the project to a wider community. Evidence
(perhaps in the form of an evaluation survey) or other means of justification,
should be provided where possible. Project outcomes should be capable of being
replicated, rather than be specific to a particular institution. Innovations
which have already been developed for local use will be viewed favourably,
although funding for new projects may be possible. In such cases, we will
ask for matched funding from the host institution or another source.
- Provide an indicative budget giving an itemised breakdown of how the grant
will be spent. This will identify personnel involved, their time commitments
and a project timetable with indicative milestones. No overheads may be charged.
- Include a clear statement of the means of evaluating and disseminating project
deliverables. CEBE will provide dissemination support.
Notes:
CEBE Development grants may not be used for equipment purchase for
departments or projects.
It is a condition of funding that recipients of funding will grant
CEBE non-exclusive rights of publication in all media. IPR will remain with
the applicant (or the applicant’s institution). However the applicant
grants a royalty free license to CEBE to use copyright materials for academic
purposes and to make such materials freely available to UK higher education
institutions for academic purposes.
Proposals will only be considered from staff members of UK HE Built Environment
departments and FE institutions delivering HE Built environment courses. Proposals
for funding must be made on the proposal form available on the CEBE web site
and may be submitted in paper form or electronically using the on-line application
form. Only fully completed proposal forms which reach the CEBE office by the
deadline specified will be considered for funding.
Funds are allocated on the basis of a competitive bidding process, judged using
the criteria described below. We expect to fund approximately eight projects
each year. The bid should:
- Set out clearly what the project is intended to achieve and why it is deemed
important for improved student learning. What is the potential importance
and impact of this development on built environment learning, teaching and
assessment?
- Demonstrate that the proposal takes account of and references any similar
known initiatives i.e. through web links, existing literature and materials
already available in the field.
- Demonstrate that the project is feasible and likely to be effective.
- Provide a realistic timetable for completion.
- Demonstrate that the project will be of use beyond the applicant’s
own department and institution.
- Incorporate a process for monitoring and evaluating progress.
- Present clear outcomes and deliverables e.g. production of a learning tool
which contributes to an understanding of learning and teaching issues in the
built environment.
- Demonstrate value for money. Is the funding request justified? Are any other
resources being put in to add value to the work?
The grant holder will be responsible for carrying out the project in a timely
and financially accountable manner. CEBE will monitor the progress of the project
according to milestones agreed in the proposal and will request a brief progress
report at six monthly intervals. A contract will be issued to successful applicants.
A payment of 50% will be made following contract signature. The remaining 50%
will be paid on satisfactory completion of the project and submission of a statement
of expenditure. Any funds underspent at the end of the project will be retained
by CEBE.
