CEBE Research Grant Funding 2008
Call for departmental research /active learning project proposals
CEBE is making available £40K to support innovative research projects
which will lead to an improved learning experience for built environment students.
The fund provides a unique opportunity for departmental staff to explore innovative
ways of enhancing learning and teaching and to pilot/explore new ideas in situ.
It is anticipated that two projects will be funded for the academic year 2008/09,
with the maximum award being £20,000 per project. Although this call refers
to single departments/schools, collaborative projects across departments/schools
within an HEI are welcome. It is intended that the grant funding will be used
to effect change across an entire department (or across departments) rather
than within a single module or in an individual's teaching practice.
The funds will be allocated on the basis of a simple competitive bidding process
using the criteria described. Projects will not normally exceed one year and
must include a verifiable evaluation strategy. Proposals will only be accepted
from Heads of Department of UK HE and FE institutions delivering Higher Education
Built Environment programmes.
Topic Selection
A successful project topic will be one that:
- identifies a clear need for further investigation, focusing on an issue
that may be pedagogically problematic or challenging, or the need to respond
to an external driver.
- is underpinned by existing research (not necessarily from within the built
environment)
- investigates how the issue might be addressed through strategic planning,
curriculum design, teaching, assessment, e-learning, resource production etc.
- is clear about who will benefit from the research (students, staff, external
stakeholders)
- provides a methodology for investigation
Project Outputs
Expected outputs include a report suitable for publication as a CEBE Working
Paper and an article submitted to one of the Centre’s two peer-reviewed
journals (JEBE and Transactions). A statement of impact will also be required,
signed by the Head of Department/School and a member of the University Teaching
and Learning unit.
The Research Grant Funding call is now closed for entries.
