Introduction

The Centre is establishing a new CEBE Briefing Guide series (ISSN 1744-9839) and over the coming months new titles will be added to the series. CEBE Briefing Guides aim to provide concise and essential information on good and innovative practice for teaching staff in Built Environment subjects. They contain ideas for designing new modules and it is hoped will provide inspiration for re-shaping existing subjects and curricula.

What is a CEBE Briefing Guide?

CEBE Briefing Guides should provide a concise outline of good and innovative practices for Built Environment lecturers; with a maximum length of 4-6 A4 pages of text. Images (charts, tables, maps, photographs) may also be included in the final submission, where appropriate.

Suggested contents of a CEBE Briefing Guide are detailed below, although authors may adapt this to suit specific topics:

  • Paragraph about the author


  • Abstract of no more than 200 words


  • Introduction – the purpose of the Guide and how to use it


  • Overview of the topic area and developments in the field


  • Teaching and learning context - issues that influence the way this subject is taught and learnt


  • Alternative models of teaching and learning this subject


  • Problems to watch out for and tips on ways of addressing them


  • Sources of good practice within and outside of the Built Environment


  • Sources for further information or reading (published articles/web references etc.)
